The Jiangshan So Picturesque-Zouma Cultural Creativity Competition Concludes Successfully
The"Jiangshan,So Picturesque"Zouma Cultural and Creative Competition concluded successfully with an award ceremony and Intangible Cultural Heritage Fair on the morning of October 22.Held at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China's New International Conference Centre(NICC),the event celebrated the deep integration of modern culture with the millennial village and imperial scholar culture of Zoumatang Community, showcasing the fruitful results of university-local collaboration in empowering local cultural brand building.
At the ceremony,a number of outstanding cultural and creative works were recognized. The designers drew inspiration from Song Dynasty aesthetics, using minimalist design fused with the charm of ink tones to inject fresh ingenuity into Zoumatang's logos,IP images, and illustrations. This approach not only echoed the brush-and-ink spirit of traditional culture but also made the ancient village culture more relatable to the younger generation.First prizes were awarded to Zhang Qijia for his official hat logo design,Yang Jiaqi and Kou Xinyuan for their blind box figurines, and Pan Yue and Ye Ruiheng for their co-branded creative designs.
The specific list of winners is as follows:
First Prize(3 groups):Zhang Qijia;Yang Jiaqi&Kou Xinyuan;Pan Yue&Ye Ruiheng.
Second Prize(5 groups):Chen Yijia;Deng Xuan&Shi Yibo;Huang Ziyi;Zhang Jingtong&Zhu Yihao;Zhang Yi.
Third Prize(5 groups):Sun Yichen&Ma Mingyuan;Li Jingfeng;Gao Bohang;Lin Qin;Lin Minpei.
The concurrently held Intangible Cultural Heritage Fair became a popular hub for staff and student interaction.Nearly ten stalls created an immersive ancient street scene, where heritage practitioners set up a live demonstration station to guide Chinese and international students in making Jinshi Cakes.Ningbo Konghou inheritor Chen Lina and her team also performed and led workshops, offering all participants an up-close experience with this unique art form.
Competition Timeline:
The Jiangshan So Picturesque-Zouma Cultural Creativity Competition was officially launched on 2025 June 13.Throughout the event, participating students conducted field research in Zoumatang Community to gather inspiration and material for their creations. In total,13 entries from students across the university were submitted. On October 21,a joint judging committee formed by Jiangshan Town and the Faculty of Science and Engineering evaluated the submissions through a process that included an initial review, presentations, and a final re-evaluation.
Prior to this, the Faculty of Science and Engineering had already collaborated with Jiangshan Town Zoumatang Community on several initiatives. These included FoSE Stress Release POP-UP Festival and“A Journey into Music and Sensibility Stepping into Zoumatang to Appreciate Konghou”.On 2025 April 30,the two parties formalized this partnership by signing a cooperation agreement to promote local cultural preservation and rural revitalization. This Zouma Cultural Creativity Competition further facilitated the imperial scholar culture and the intangible cultural heritage of Konghou to the international stage.
Dr Hainam Do,Associate Dean for People and Culture at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, emphasized how special this event is.“It beautifully brings together an ancient Eastern village with an international community, giving students a wonderful chance to participate in rural revitalization through their imagination and creativity. This creates a special blend of Chinese and Western elements and encourages cultural exchange. It perfectly reflects the faculty’s goal of sharing and celebrating both Chinese and Western cultures!”
Though the competition has concluded, the seeds of creativity it planted in the ancient town will continue to grow.We anticipate future collaborations where youthful innovation and local culture meet, promising to write an exciting new chapter in integrated urban-rural development.
